A Long History with Frederick County

Kingspan Insulation acquired its Frederick County production facility in 2014. The plant was built in 1980 and now houses more than 130 employees. In 2021, the Kingspan Group acquired several other existing insulation businesses around the United States. The new locations are in Florida, Minnesota, Illinois, and Ohio.

In 2022, Kingspan announced it would invest $27 million to build a second manufacturing facility in Frederick County adjacent to its current facility, for production of high-demand, ultra-high energy efficient OPTIM-R® vacuum insulated panels. The project will create 37 new jobs. In keeping with Kingspan’s Planet Passionate initiative, the Frederick County expansion will incorporate a number of sustainability aspects, including: replacement of all removed trees; the use of translucent wall panels to incorporate natural lighting and allow for reduced energy usage; the use of PV Roofing for the maximum use of renewable energy toward the goal of net zero carbon emissions for all Winchester product facilities; and the use of recycled rainwater through a robust rainwater harvesting program. Read the press announcement here.

Working for Kingspan

Kingspan's local production facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Twelve-hour shifts are four days on, four days off, a schedule that was voted into place by the existing workforce. The company cross-trains its production teams, and employees are eligible for pay increases when they are able to operate new areas independently, providing regular opportunities to skill-up.
