Navy Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit credit union that serves Department of Defense employees, military personnel, Veterans, and their families. In a credit union, members are owners, not just customers. And at Navy Federal, each of its members has a vote and a voice. As a not-for-profit institution, any surplus funds are returned to members in the form of dividends, reduced interest rates on loans, and in continual improvements to member-facing products and services.
Founded during the Great Depression by seven Navy Department employees, Navy Federal Credit Union has grown into an institution that today serves more than 13 million members in every corner of the globe. Its global workforce consists of more than 24,000 employees spread across campuses in Winchester, VA; Vienna, VA; Pensacola, FL; and at more than 350 branches worldwide.

Valued Frederick County Partnership
Navy Federal began its relationship with Frederick County in 2004 after purchasing a 50,000-square-foot building a few miles east of downtown Winchester. Although originally envisioned as a disaster recovery location for its headquarters in Vienna, Navy Federal soon changed its plans and instead designated the location as a new, enterprise-wide operations center. The facility opened in September of 2006 with just 60 full-time employees.
Eighteen years later, Winchester’s Navy Federal presence has expanded across three state-of-the-art buildings that support more than 3,200 employees in 400,000 square feet of office space. Throughout the 61-acre campus, employees have access to a full-service cafeteria, sandwich shop, wellness and fitness centers, a scenic walking trail, and a convenience store.

Giving back to the Community
One of Navy Federal’s core values is community, and its Winchester staff reliably embodies that principle. In addition to 8 hours of volunteer leave given to each Navy Federal employee annually, team members in Winchester have shown a consistent desire to serve their neighbors throughout the community, specifically through Navy Federal’s School Partnerships Program, Dollars for Doers, and through various food, clothing, and gift drives held throughout the year.
In 2023, Winchester team members volunteered over 8,000 hours in the community and donated nearly $50,000 to local nonprofits and over $75,000 in toys, gift cards, clothing, and school supplies to local children.
