Metal Fabrication
A National Leader in Steel Fabrication
Since 1952, Cives has been true to the vision laid by its founder, John Rouse. Mr. Rouse realized early that surrounding himself with talented, educated people only made his company better. From its original shop in Gouverneur, New York, Cives has expanded with six additional facilities across the United States, allowing Cives to be a local fabricator, and the right fabricator, for any size project.

Cives' Frederick County facility opened in 1973 under the name Shenandoah Ironworks, before later becoming Cives Mid-Atlantic Division. Over its 50-year history in Frederick County, the company has been involved in projects throughout the region. Notable projects include HP Hood's dairy manufacturing facility in Frederick County, multiple phases of Winchester Medical Center, the National Airport Terminal near Washington, D.C., Devil's Hockey Arena in Newark, NJ, and the Comcast Tower in Philadelphia, PA.

More than 650,000 tons of steel has been fabricated at the Frederick County facility, equating to more than 29,000 trailer loads. Torch cutting, welding, drilling, bending, and finishing are just a few of the skills employees use to customize beams for the unique needs of each project.
Cives is part of a robust Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing sector in Frederick County that includes Winchester Metals, ZM Sheet Metal, Extreme Steel, Fabritek, McElroy Metal, and Barrett Machine, among others. Metal fabrication is the County's third largest manufacturing subsector, accounting for 10% of manufacturing employment.

Cives provides intensive on-the-job training, continuing education, and certifications to ensure employees reach their maximum potential within their job classification, or in learning a new one within the company.
“I was hired into the drafting department, but the Cives training program requires you to work in each department to understand each part of the business. When I went into the Estimating Department for an extended period, I really enjoyed it. Once a full time position became available and was offered to me, I was eager to accept. I was an estimator for quite a while and was promoted to Chief Estimator, a position I currently hold.” – John Harris, Chief Estimator
