Manufacturer of the Beloved Salsa Shovel
If you’ve been to a farmers market, brewery, or Wegmans in the Northern Shenandoah Valley or Northern Virginia, chances are you’ve crunched into a bag of Texas Trey’s Salsa Shovel chips. Known for their bold flavor and kettle-style crunch, these small-batch tortilla chips have built a loyal fan base that extends well beyond the region.

From Family Recipe to Regional Favorite
Founded in 2012 out of a concession trailer and home kitchen, Texas Trey’s quickly grew from a family recipe into a regional favorite. Its commitment to high-quality ingredients and artisanal craftsmanship landed the chips on shelves at Wegmans Food Markets in Leesburg and Ashburn. The product didn’t just perform well—it became a top seller in its category, prompting Wegmans to expand orders to all 14 Virginia stores. But without a co-packer or investment to scale production, the company couldn’t meet demand and closed in February 2024. Only a month later, a devoted fan stepped forward with the investment needed to bring Texas Trey’s back to life.
A Crunchy Addition to Frederick County’s Food Economy
Now operating out of a new Frederick County production facility with a retail storefront (opening September 27), Texas Trey’s is once again making its mark. The company joins other thriving food businesses in the region, including Shawnee Springs Market & Cannery, 8th Avenue Food & Provisions, Miller Milling, and HP Hood, strengthening the county’s growing food economy.

What’s Next for Texas Trey’s?
With increased production capacity, expanded retail partnerships, and a direct-to-customer storefront, Texas Trey’s is positioned for big growth. Shoppers can already find Salsa Shovels at select Wegmans, local farmers markets, and breweries, and the company plans to keep expanding its reach. The next time you see a bag of Salsa Shovels, you’ll know there’s a Frederick County story behind every chip.
